MANKOTTA ISLAND,HARIPPAD
Mankotta Island Resort is housed in the ancestral farm house of the Glanjikal family. It is situated midway between Trivandrum and Kochi airports, 8 Kms east of the Temple Town of Haripad. It
takes 3 hours car drive from either airports. A part of the Old
Traditional Kerala House is opened out to visitors. They can host a
maximum of 3 Couples. The
food served is FARM FRESH. Traditional Keralan recipies are made on old
wood fire stoves (Spiced down for foreign visitors). While
the guests are there, they become part of the house hold. They are
taken around the farm, and can watch and participate (if they wish) in
various farm activities. The main crop is Rice, but they also grow
coconuts, cocoa, arcanuts and fresh water fish. Visitors
can also explore the backwaters in country boats to see life on a
waterside village, the birds, the fishermen at work etc. For those who want to see some local architecture, can be taken into Haripad to see the temples and the Palaces at Kayamkulam. The oldest church in India, made by St. Thomas, the apostle of Christ in 54 AD is just 30 minutes car ride away from Mankotta. The best months to visit Mankotta is OCT to MARCH. However
the months of Aug-Sep are getting to be popular because of the 'Snake
Boat Races' held in and around Mankotta at that time. The 1st race of the season is on the 2nd Saturday in August. There
are several other boat races around the festival of Onam. These dates
change each year as they follow the Lunar Calender. This year its from
