 Jog is located in Shimoga District of Karnataka are magnificent falls, set in the wild and unspoiled surroundings. The Sharavathi River cascades down 292 m in four distinct falls – Raja, Rani, Rover and Rocket – at Gerusoppa and is a roaring treat to one’s eyes. Just after the monsoon season or rainy season the falls are a magnificent and awesome sight to see. At this time the falls are surrounded by mists. The 50 km long Hirebhasgar reservoir now controls the flow of the Sharavati River in order to generate hydro-electricity but in spite of this there is a vast difference between the wet and dry season flow of the waterfalls. Here the nature has been less disturbed for the tourist tapings. |

Tunga Anicut Dam |

Situiated 15 km from Shimoga, this dam was built across the river Tungabadra. You can enjoy boat trips around the lake. The dam is open from 10 AM to 5 PM on all days. Just 3 Km from the dam is Sacrebyle, which is an elephant camp. The camp houses several elephants. The best time to visit the camp is early in the morning when the elephants are taken for a bath in the lake. |
